About

Spektra is a versatile multi-script type family that combines 5 scripts: Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek and Hebrew. It is a variable font with two axes: weight and slant. Each of the five weights is completed with an italic and a backslant style. The result is a highly expressive, characteristic and powerful type family. Spektra plays with the limits of its letter shapes, combines different locations, cultures and ideas and celebrates the differences among them.

The heaviest style is — for example — defined by the thickness of Arabic horizontals, which represent the idea behind the design: consideration of the design characteristics of every script.

Type Salon

Type Salon is an independent type design studio based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The studio was founded by Alja Herlah and Krista Likar. Located at the crossroads of the main European cultural routes, they create letter shapes that present the mixture of diverse heritage and contemporary presence. Type Salon produces finely-crafted yet multi-usable typefaces. They offer extensions of the existing typefaces or multi-lingual additions such as Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, and Hebrew.

She has been an active member of Tipo Brda, organising and mentoring type design and typography workshops and talks in Slovenia. Herlah broadened her practice as Font Developer at Atlas Fonts, Berlin and Dalton Maag, London. Currently, Herlah is working as a Teaching Assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Ljubljana and developing new typefaces for Type Salon.
