About

Crimp by Font Club Belgica is a modern revival of a brilliant yet overlooked idea from type history, blending technical precision with contemporary design. Inspired by W.A. Dwiggins’ concept of variable-width characters to improve fixed-width typewriters, Crimp features 50% and 150% glyphs for refined spacing.

Historically, engineering and technical industries relied on rigid, monospaced typefaces like Courier and OCR-A, designed for clarity and machine readability, but these came with visual constraints. Crimp transcends these limitations by incorporating angled, stubbed terminals and half-width spaces, adding a distinctive mechanical flair while enhancing legibility and efficiency.

Crimp supports extended Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek. It is ideal for applications in engineering, aerospace, gaming, and outdoor branding.

Font Club Belgica

Belgians are known for being humble, rooted in history, but also very hardworking with a dash of dark humor — all qualities which are apparent in Font Club Belgica’s library. The intent behind Font Club Belgica is to form a union of fonts, an outlet to promote the Belgian Type Scene. The raison d’être of Font Club Belgica isn’t to make variations of Times, Caslon, or the known Swiss Modernistic sans typefaces, but to surprise the audience with weird and wonderful typographic experiments.

Dries Wiewauters

Dries Wiewauters is interested in typographic systems that push the boundaries of design. He also has an affinity for type design that is rooted in history, but always tries to add something to the typographic canon.

His type can be characterized as having a duality. It is inviting yet hardworking. Being mostly self-taught, after 15 years in the industry, Dries co-founded Font Club Belgica to help mentor upcoming talent. Dries previously was a teacher at the KASK School of Arts Ghent.
