Prince John held his high festival in the Castle of Ashby. This was not the same building of which the stately ruins still interest the traveller, and which was erected at a later period by the Lord Hastings, High Chamberlain of England, one of the first victims of the tyranny of Richard the Third, and yet better known as one of Shakspeare’s characters than by his historical fame. About

The origins of Bering can be traced back to a small harbour in the bay near the Swedish city of Skärhamn. The name of that village was stencilled—presumably in the late 1960s—in a very peculiar way on one of the lifebuoys, which was fortunately found by the authors in another harbour in a German city called Rostock.

Bering has a strict, analytical look, bringing to mind the original purpose of the stencil: it was meant to be a simple tool for drawing letters on various surfaces. The design approach, based on a multi-layered modular grid, has made it possible to reinvent the design of the original letterforms. The geometric structure of the typeface also allows the development of the proportions and weights of the type family in various directions.

Bering speaks more than 380 languages, including, for example, Pipil, which is spoken in El Salvador, or the Ese Ejja language, which is spoken in Bolivia and Peru.

Schrift Foundry

Schrift Foundry started from more than a decade of experience in typography and publishing at Schrift Publishers, founded by Eugene Yukechev and Rustam Gabbasov in 2013. Over the years, Schrift Publishers released dozens of publications on typography and the art of type. Among their notable book releases are monographs on Solomon Telingater, Vladimir Favorsky, Adrian Frutiger, Villu Toots, and a translation of Eric Gill’s “An Essay on Typography”.

In 2020, Schrift Foundry was established with the arrival of Dmitry Pilikov, marking a new phase in their work and bringing a more focused, systematic approach to type production. By now, the foundry offered a diverse collection of fonts and provided custom type production for a wide range of customers. Their typefaces are designed to balance form and function, whether for book layouts or large-scale media projects.

Schrift Foundry approaches typography as both an art and a craft. Their designs reflect a curiosity of how people engage with text, resulting in fonts that are not only visually appealing but also practical and reliable across different contexts.

Eugene Yukechev

Eugene obtained a degree in philology and graduated from the British Higher School of Art and Design’s Type and Typography programme. He pursued further education at the Plantin Institute of Typography in Antwerp. In 2013, he founded Schrift Publishers, a publishing house with an extensive editorial programme and an online periodical called Type Journal. In 2024, together with partners from Schrift Publishers, Eugene launched a type design studio, the Schrift Foundry.

Dmitry Pilikov

Dmitry Pilikov is a designer and art director specializing in maps, navigation systems, product design, and consulting for start-ups. Dmitry is a co-founder of Schrift Foundry. He graduated from Novosibirsk State Technical University and participated in Designworkout workshops led by Dima Barbanel. He has organized design conferences while developing comprehensive corporate design programs. Dmitry frequently shares his expertise with teams and collaborates with renowned type foundries, including Swiss Typefaces and Our Type, to customize typefaces for specific projects.
