Juneau in use: Whispers of the Unheard

A sans serif that is both friendly and strict, used in a monograph by an artist reflecting on difficult topics

17 March 2006

Whispers of the Unheard is the first monograph by Ishita Chakraborty, a Switzerland-based artist of Bengali origin. In her work, she addresses environmental issues, migration, and sociocultural disparities. The texts in the monograph, which was designed by Megi Zumstein, are set in Juneau by Philipp Neumeyer.

Juneau is a typeface inspired by efficient proportions, rounded forms, and widespread diagonals of the metal grotesques produced by the Scottish foundry Miller & Richard. Each of Juneau’s 16 styles contains 1,300 glyphs — including arrows, stylistic alternates, case-sensitive punctuation, several sets of numerals, and small caps.
