Quattrocode in use: Sensible Objects

A story of a warehouse barcode that ended up in a gallery

October 3, 2022

Sensible Objects is a performance by Berru art group that translates the idea of impossibility to entirely give up on the material world and shift to the digital one. It appears that designer Miguel Mesquita is being slightly ironic about the statement of the artists — the Quattrocode typeface used for the performance’ identity grew out of the PDF417 barcode that helped fully automate the goods accounting process at warehouses.

Quattrocode by Arthur Lebsack includes three styles, four stylistic sets, and one variable font. The styles work great with each other in headlines and small texts, turning into abstract graphics in a highly dense setting.
