The Society for Promoting Useful Books is a project that shares covers and quotes from not-obvious books published in Russian as well as reviews of them. The website features literature on medicine and history, philology and philosophy, and even some pulp fiction. Kazimir and Navigo by CSTM Fonts are charged with the project’s typography.
A low-contrast geometric sans typeface with a modern approach to proportion and an extensive character set, Navigo was initially designed for the Moscow City district’s visual identity and wayfinding system. The set includes extended Latin and Cyrillic, tabular, old style and lining figures, fractions, and navigational icons.
Kazimir is a contrast Didone of five weights ranging from Light to Black, each fitted with italics. The typeface comes in two stylistic sets, Regular and Irregular. The second set boasts whimsical glyphs that are hard to imagine as a modern text face but work great at larger sizes.
