Modernists and Mavericks: Bacon, Freud, Hockney and the London Painters is a book by art critic Martin Gayford about the work of the mentioned painters in the context of the Bohemian life of London of that time. The russian translation of the book was published as part of the joint programme of Ad Marginem publisher and ABC Design studio. The typography on its cover is executed using Archaism by Nikita Kanarev.
A closed mechanical grotesque based on a narrow reverse-contrast typeface, Archaism comes in 15 styles, each of which is a step from distortion to conventional and regular shapes. It is also available as a variable font of two axes.
