Karmir is a chain of photo labs (coupled with coffee houses) with spots in Yerevan, Armenia, and Belgrade, Serbia. At Karmir, one can develop, print, or purchase photo or video films, as well as rent an analogue camera. The typography on the project’s website is done with the help of Forma DJR by David Jonathan Ross.
Forma DJR is a revival of the Nebiolo foundry’s typeface of the same name, designed (among other things) as a response to Helvetica. Beyond its prototype, Forma DJR also embraces the 1960s-1970s trend of sans serif type, famous for its tight letter spacing and rounded angles. For these subtleties not to be lost at either really large or really small sizes, Forma comes in five optical sizes, from Micro (less than 8pt) to Banner (from 72 pt).
