Forma DJR in use: De Bijloke

A quite distinctive revival used in the visual identity of a music centre dating back to the 13th century

27 October 2006

Muziekcentrum De Bijloke is a concert hall in Ghent located in a structure built in 1251. Its visual identity, partially inspired by John Cage’s music notation methods, uses Forma DJR by David Jonathan Ross. The identity was designed at Pentagram.

Forma DJR is a revival of the typeface of the same name created by the Nebiolo foundry. Other than its prototype, Forma DJR makes you think of 1960-1970s sans serif faces characterised by tight letter spacing and rounded angles. For these subtleties not to be lost at extremely large and small sizes, Forma is available in five optical weights, ranging from Micro (less than 8 pt) to Banner (from 72 pt).
